The public health departments which control the water quality and its hygienic status, have noticed a growth in contamination through nitrates and pesticides. The contaminations are mostly found in the top aquifer (shallow depths) and are only a a preliminary sign for a long-term trend also for deeper aquifers. These concern the public water supply.
Objective of this project is to create a concept for both the reduction of contamination and trreatment of the water to ensure long-term water quality. Monitoring shall be optimized and advice for decision support will be given.
The concept will be developed in the 2 000km2 region of Osnabrück which has 11 000 private water wells and in four small villages in the catchment of the Saidenbachtalsperre in Saxony (350 private water wells).
