Statist is a small and portable statistics program written in C. It is terminal-based, but can utilise GNUplot for plotting purposes. It is simple to use and can be run in scripts. Big datasets are handled reasonably well on small machines.

In spite of its low overhead, statist can do quite a bunch of regression functions and tests in a comprehensible way. It is quite powerful.

Statist is Free Software under the GNU GPL and comes completely without warranty!

Graphical User Interface (GUI)

statist itself has not GUI. Andreas Beyer once wrapped statist and called the result: StatistX. StatistX is experimental (state of April 2001) and might be somewhat difficult to install because of the libraries it depends on.

Requirements

You should be able to build the program on any system with a standard (ANSI) C compiler If you want plots you also need to have gnuplot

installed.

Added gettext support, replaced the use of the option -delrow with a new system of deleting missing values, and added new features: (1) extract columns from fixed width datafiles; (2) create a sample of a datafile.

Dirk Melcher started statist's development for small tasks so he does not have to cope with the non-comphrehensible dinosaur statist programs anymore. (See the Dirk's archived page about statist(»German) (oneway)

Bernhard Reiter took over the maintenance from Dirk in the beginning of 1997. In August 2005 Bernhard handed it over to Jakson Aquino <>, who is the current maintainer of statist.
