Claudia Pahl-Wostl: Research

Fields of Research

  • Adaptive governance and management of environmental resources
  • Social and societal learning and their role in transformation processes towards sustainability
  • Global water governance in a multi-level governance system
  • Application of participatory and agent-based modelling in resource governance and management
  • Conceptual and methodological frameworks to analyse social-ecological systems

The chair of Resources Management was established in October 2001 at the Interdisciplinary Institute of Environmental Systems Research, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Osnabrueck. It is an endowed chair funded for the first 5 year period by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt.

Innovative concepts for managing transformation processes towards sustainability are developed with an emphasis on an improved understanding of the complex dynamics and management of actor networks. We develop new concepts for participatory model development and management strategies. Activities proceed in close exchange with industry and public authorities and other stakeholder groups.
