 Eco-Campus

eco-campus.net connects actors working or studying at universities who actively support the ecological design of  research, teaching, and administration at universities.

We proclaim an university, following objectives and design pincipals of which agree with sustainable development. The task to reduce actual flows of energy and substances at universities has high priority. In order to achieve this aim, a continual exchange of experience and knowledge concerning sustainable ecological development and a joint representation are necessary.

In the present form of organization, the network is accessible to all persons and organizations, which are interested in topics such as environmental management, agenda 21, and sustainability and which support the objectives of the network.

Activities of eco-campus.net

  • Maintenance and further development of the network server
  • Delivery of instruments for communication (chat, discussion platform, member information, newspapers)
  • Development of concepts for meetings
  • Development and dispersal of concepts for environmental management and for the agenda 21 at universities
  • Creation of databases
  • Political activities

In 1999 and 2000, the network was established by the USF and the University of Economy in Berlin. Start-up financing was partly provided by the German Foundation for Environment (DBU). Since 2001, eco-campus.net has been continued by the Swiss EAWAG (project CLEAR, funded by the Swiss National Foundation) and extended to Swiss universities.
